Evelyn Polk
My work is deeply rooted in both materiality and concept, bridging the physical presence of found objects with abstract interpretations of form and colour. This practice overlaps with ideas of excavation and the land, reflecting a sensitivity to place, history, and process. My approach to printmaking pushes beyond traditional methods, embracing experimentation and innovation within a medium that carries significant historical weight.
I am particularly drawn to the idea of museums existing within our cupboards and imaginations. Everyday objects hold quiet histories and meanings that often go unnoticed until they are reframed. In my role as a mediator, I select and present objects to invite closer looking and deeper contemplation. At the core of my practice is a desire to understand our relationship with the shapes that surround us and to translate this inquiry into a unique visual language.
