Ivy Smith

I am a painter and printmaker. My work is mainly about people, their movements and poses and what they do. But this concern doesn’t exclude landscape and still-life. Recently I have become interested in aspects of the seaside, how people behave there, but also the sea-shore plants that grow in particular locations. Linocut (using 5 or 6 separate blocks) and etching are my usual methods of printmaking. My paintings and prints often relate closely as I will explore an idea through both media, and in all my work I am trying to reconcile the particular with the formal.

I exhibit widely in group and solo shows, and have work in private and public collections, including Norwich Castle Museum, Christchurch Mansion Ipswich,  the V&A and the National Portrait Gallery. I am a visiting tutor at the Royal Drawing School, London.

I have taken part in the Norwich Print Fair many times during its history.
