Lorna Kirin
I am a printmaker, working in my home studio near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. I work predominately in wood engraving, linocut and drypoint.
My work seeks to engage with a language of fragmented history, preserving fragile and vulnerable stories that open a new conversation.
My ‘Heirloom’ series intricately documents memories of family and legacy through their skilled handmade lace and embroidery, made over 100 years ago. Carefully preserving their intrinsic beauty, embracing signs of wear and daily use in my printed marks and reinterpreted composition. These fragile pieces of textile have been loved and cherished and now retell their story through their frays and repairs. The resulting ‘Totem’ prints are meditations on how fragility, time, and the act of remembering create a presence in our lives.
My drypoint prints extend my historic eye to exploring the textures and forms found in the extraordinary East Anglian craftsmanship of the past; now gradually worn away by time and referencing intricate medieval carvings, angel ceilings and architectural details. These precious pieces defy time with their stature and I am deeply drawn to their enduring inspiration.
I was awarded the Society of Wood Engravers Prize at The RE International Original Print exhibition, 2025.
