Artist Statement
Analysing the beauty and complexity of nature and examining the many life cycles found in the natural world has always been the main objective in my work. The study of insects, predominantly bees, has been a major influence on my prints, analysing their language, habitat and behaviour from a scientific perspective before producing the artwork. First hand involvement and study of the subject matter is very important to me and has led to keeping my own honeybees, moths and mason bees.
The prints subsequently produced, often involve a method of layering mono-prints and use of translucent inks. Stencils, combined with painting and drawing also enable me to create depth and intensity in each image. By creating many layers of imagery and meaning in each unique print, I hope to give the viewer a greater understanding of the natural world, and make them more aware of the importance of the preservation and conservation of certain species and habitats. Additionally to monoprints, I also produce etchings, collagraphs and digital prints which all follow a similar theme.
Since obtaining my BA Hons in Fine Art Printmaking at the Norwich School of Art & Design, I have exhibited regularly as well as lectured part-time, on the subject of printmaking.
