Artist Statement
Screenprinting, as a creative production process, has always been for me, a challenging and fulfilling medium of self
expression. My personal fascination with the limitless scope of geometric abstraction - with the accent very definitely
on symmetry, balance of colour and form, and controlled precision - has found outlet over the years in acrylic
paintings, stained glasswork, and screenprinting. I quickly discovered that symmetrical designs lend themselves to being
printed in such a way that screens are used more than once for different coloured elements of the finished result. This
reduces raw material costs, and duplication of preparatory work, but does necessitate accurate drawing out and
registration - hence the challenge!
Finally gaining access to a computer of my own from 1997, and gradual acquiring of skills thereof, led to the
corresponding expansion of design and reproduction potential now widely taken for granted by the creative community. I
have developed scores of design strands of what is really meditational geometric doodling, and these have been worked up
into greetings cards, calendars and fine-art prints, with the as yet unrealised potential for gift wrap, fabrics,
ceramics and other textural media.
However, I still love the 'realness' of screenprinting; 'ImpossaStar' being a recent example of computer-aided
distortion of a symmetry, which would not be otherwise possible to achieve.
