Artist Statement

I studied Art, Art History & Graphic Design. I became a professional Book Designer for Longman Pearson for a number of years, and then worked as freelance designer for Longman Pearson, and Oxford and Cambridge University Presses, designing books illustrated by well-known artists such as Tony Ross, Peter Firmin and Quentin Blake.

My design training and experience has helped me a great deal with my present career, giving me an eye for composition, visualisation and presentation. My work has a strong feeling of design and I am passionate about what I do. I am influenced by the rhythmical flowing lines of Art Nouveau and love intricate detail. Increasingly my designs have become more dreamlike in style and composition.

I first began developing my ideas using lino and then progressed to wood engraving. I print my designs onto hand-made and mould-made papers using an antique cast-iron Albion Press circa 1860.

I am an elected member of the Suffolk Crafts Society
