Artist Statement

Inspired by a lifetime of fish keeping and fish breeding, I make multi coloured, multi layered prints, using many techniques.
In lino, I will cut every scale and every fin ray (a throw back from my years as a medical illustrator at Liverpool University Veterinary Anatomy). I then overprint with real reeds and grasses, inked and passed through an etching press to emboss and transfer colour. Layers of turquoise and viridian shimmer with a magical iridescence, shafts of light, cut through the water giving a three dimensional illusion of deep-sea life.

I also enjoy etching, using small copper plates to make delicate, intricately detailed images of seashells and other 'flotsam and jetsam' gathered from around Norfolk's coastline.
