Chris Evans

I was educated at St. Martin’s School of Art where I studied illustration and fabric design. After graduating I worked in advertising and as a free-lance illustrator working mainly for educational publications.
I began etching about fifteen year’s ago after attending a printmaking course at Suffolk College. As an illustrator the majority of my work is figurative and now as a contrast I tend to explore landscape and architecture in my prints.
When I was a student I was encouraged to keep a sketchbook and I find this a rewarding habit producing many of my prints from sketches.
The majority of my prints are etchings produced on zinc plates using soft ground for line and texture and aquatinting techniques for different tones. I often ink up a plate with several colours, blending them as I wipe the plate. I also make dry-point prints on Perspex using a sharply pointed tool to engrave the plate and cardboard templates to add colours.
