Artist Statement
Brigitte-Anne HagueA Fine Art graduate from Norwich School of Art and Design, I specialize in Printmaking, concentrating on large ‘one-off’ original prints.
Contemporary culture and art are broadly based, often emphasizing difference. My interest lies in highlighting emotional responses to human experiences. Colour, shape and mark are juxtaposed to evoke space and currents of energy, inviting the viewer to a sensory response. My work is essentially a poetic aesthetic and my latest work was recently reviewed for the Eastern Daily Press;

‘..strict geometric forms are overlaid with expressive gestural waves that create a complex depth and richness that is seldom obtained in this genre. Other prints…..exist without the gestural signature and display a pure mathematical, rhythmical posture more associated with a meditative calm.’

Generally, I work in series, using a multiplicity of techniques on several related pieces simultaneously over several weeks. I see each series as expressing a unique view on life at a point in time. For me, my latest series, Trace, oscillates between ebullience and meditative calm – but the response to an artwork is an intensely personal experience. My aim is that the viewer be liberated from the conscious mind and delivered to a point beyond the compositional qualities of line and form to a point of aesthetic contemplation, or emotional reflection.

My work is held in private and Academic collections including California State University, USA and Asagaya College of Arts, Tokyo.
